MG Car Repair: fan clutch, left hand thread, clutch unit

Question
We need to replace the fan clutch on our 76 mg midget(usa), is this something that should be done in a repair shop or can i do it in my garage?  I am no mechanic but i am fairly good with tools.

Answer
Hi Leo. From memory, you need a special spanner (wrench).  It is very thin and I think it is about 32mm in size.  You must use it to undo the nut behind the fan.  Note that the clutch unit has a left hand thread, so it turns the wrong way.  This engine is basically a Triumph Spitfire unit, not an MG engine, so if you cannot obtain the correct wrench, take it to a Triumph specialist.
