MG Car Repair: cooling fans still inoperative, radiator tank, electrical schematics

Question
Barrie,

Thanks so much for your much needed guidance. You corrected the tach and dash/marker lights....turned out to be a combination of problems, broken, dirty conections to no lights in the circuit.
thanks to a great job on solving my problem there.

My second problem still present; the fans will run on there own
running 12volt direct.
I shorten the device wiring on the radiator tank header (looked like the end of a broom stick handle in brass). Is this what you had called the thermostatic switch?
I checked both in line fuses by he fuse box; cleaned & replaced the fuses in the fuse; plus cleaned the fuse box but still no action!!?
The color codes on the wiring from the fans is one black & the other is green & black!
Not sure as if they follow the same color code back to the fuse box or if there is another switch?
When this first happen I was able to shake the wiring harness behind the headlight on the passengers side and the fan ran for a short period of time (sorry I forgot that detail)!
Do you have access to electrical schematics?
It took me sometime to get to you as my computer had crashed & is only partially repaired.
Waiting to be able to drive this MGB!
Thanks again for all youir time and kindness....the world needs more people like you.
have a great day :)

Answer
Hi Pete.  The wire that you describe as green and black is actually black with a green stripe.  It goes from the fan to the thermostatic switch.  The plain black wires are earth (ground).  The in-line fuse feeds the other side of the thermostatic switch via a plain green wire.

If you can get the fan working by shaking the loom, then there is a loose connection.  I would trace all the wires, especually the black earth wires.  The other problem areas are the connectors for disconnecting the fan.  If you follow the wires from the fan you should find a 2-way connector about 6 inches down the wire.  Pull it apart and clean the contacts.

Hope this helps
