MG Car Repair: MG Midget, screw driver, bob butler

Question
I have a 1979 midget, and can not open the engine hood.
I pull the hood lever, but nothing happens...
Any idea, to help me open it?

Hi Bob,
This is not uncommon and you first need to have someone push down hard on the leading edge of the center of the hood while you pull hard on the cable. If that don't release the latch you can take a flash light and look in the grill at the latch and use a long heavy screw driver and go in at the upper part of the grill and try to trip the latch while someone bumps down on the middle front edge of the hood to take the load off of the latch as you pry on the latch.

It would be better to look at the latch of another Midget so you can see what you are suppose to be prying against. Then it will be easier when trying to use a light and a long heavy screwdriver to trip the latch.
