Hi Joe.  The wiring on a 1979-80 USA spec. MGB is a little confusing, because one of the brown wires is different from all the rest, having a push-on `Lucar' connector.  The remainder of the brown wires should have ring terminals.  The ring terminals all go on the stud on the starter solenoid.

The brown wire with the Lucar connector is the actuator wire.  It goes on the larger of the two male connectors next to the stud. On earlier cars, the actuator wire was White with a Red stripe instead of plain Brown.

The White wire with a Green stripe has a smaller Lucar connector, and it goes on the smaller male connector further away from the stud.  On some cars, this wire will be missing because the car has had its ballast resistor removed.

I attach a photo of the solenoid, clearly showing the two male connectors.  I have temporarily attached a ring terminal where the remainder of the brown wires should go.

If your solenoid is slightly different, just note WHERE the connectors are, not the shape of them.  I have seen some starters with a small threaded terminal that require a female push-on connector instead of a Lucar blade connector.
