MG Car Repair: stock carbs for 69 midget, mg midget, hi mike

Howard have another ? for you. i have a 69 mg midget has not ran for 12 years iv made sure all is ok with the engine. im sure now that the carbs need to be gone through. not knowing anything about the stock carbs is the kit that is out there easy to do or would you suggest that i try to find someone local to rebuild them for me? or i see after market carbs set ups available are they better? again thanks so much for your time with out guys like you some of us would be completely lost thanks mike

Hi Mike,
The SUs are not difficult as there are not many parts to them but to install kits you should purchase a service manual as they are designed differently than conventional carburetors. I can't cover it all in e-mail as there is too much to cover but if you will get a service manual you should be able to do the job and any detail that you run into that is not clear in the manual I will be glad to help.
