MG Car Repair: 1971 MGB, moss motors, vacuum advance

Question
I just bought a 1971 mgb that had been sitting in a garage for some time.  It starts but only for about 30 sec and then cuts out.  I noticed a vacuum hose missing from the vacuum advance on the distributor, i'm trying to find out where the hose would be connected to.  Assuming I can get it started what is the ignition timing also.  As for now i'm hoping that should get it up and running.  Thanks in advance for the help.

Answer
Hi, Bill.  Sorry for the delay.  My computer had a fault that took 10 days to fix.

Your distributor should be connected by a small tube to the vacuum take-off underneath one of the SU carburetters.  If any parts are missing, they are all available from Moss Motors.  See

If you can't find the connection, I could photograph one for you.

However, it sounds to me that your problem is with the fuel pump.   These often get lazy after a long time without use.  Next time the engine dies, switch off the ignition.  Now listen to the pump.  Can you hear it ticking when you turn the ignition back on (before you hit the starter)?  If it is a slow `chug-a chug-a' sound, then you need new fuel pump points or a replacement pump.
