MG Car Repair: bolt pattern 72 mg midget, 14 inch rims, wheel arches

Question
Hello Barrie,
Once again, thank you for all the assistance and knowledge you provide.
I have 72 mg midget and have driven it for the last time this year as the snow should start falling in the next day or so.
Meanwhile I was interested in upgrading the tire size or rim size for a higher, beefer look.
My question is what is the bolt pattern for the car?  On forums people are said it is 4*4, but in Canada that pattern doesn't exist.  I'm used to the 5*100pattern format.

Second, are there 14 or 15 rims that I can use from another vehicle..  Once again, I've seen on forums that VW wheels will fit but I'm not sure.

Answer
Hi Rico.  I assume that you have the standard steel wheels on your 72 Midget.  They are 4.5J SL x 13. (In the UK we do not use pattern names such as 4*4)  The wheels have 4 holes, and the holes and the PCD are imperial.  It is possible that wheels from a VW might fit, but the fixing holes and PCD would be Metric, so I would not recommend it.

The MGB had 14 inch rims and the same stud pattern, so the easiest change would be to fit MGB wheels with 185/60 x 14 tyres.  Be careful not to fit wider tyres, they will rub on the wheel arches and you probably could not use snow chains with them.
