MG Car Repair: Headlights, reproduction model, fiberglass body

Question
My head lights do not work anymore after driving through a bad rain storm 2 weeks ago.  The car is a reproduction model of a 1954 MGTF 1500.  Fiberglass body and steel frame.  I have current at each headlight plug and can switch power from blue/red  to blue/white via the dipper switch.  The ground is okay.  I have tested each lamp and they do work.  The only thing that is strange is that I lose current when I plug the lamps in.  Go figure?  Can you help?  thanks

Answer
Hi Tony,
You need a wiring diagram of the car to trace wiring. However, it sounds like you have a bad connection in the circuit that dies. When a load (the light) is connected the high resistance in a bad connection will break down as soon as a load it applied. That's a guess. If you got a wiring diagram with the kit car, trace that circuit back to the power supply with the lights turned on.
