MG Car Repair: 1974 1275cc Midget Clutch Hose, clutch slave cylinders, triumph 1500

Question
Hello Howard,

My 14 year old son is trying to help repair my MG as he hopes to get it when he starts driving.  We have had to replace the slave cylinder and now need a clutch hose.  We tried locally to get a part, but none worked.  I ordered this clutch hose http://www.victoriabritish.com/icatalog/sm/full.aspx?Page=23
(7-381)from Victoria British, but when it arrived, my son said it was too short.  Even though my car is a 1974 (my engine number is 12V/671Z/L16601)should I order the clutch hose for a 1975? It looks longer in the catalog.  We tried to call the company today, but there were no tech experts there.  Do you have any suggestions?  We are quite frustrated at this point and would love any help.

Thanks!!
Sharon

Answer
Hi Sharon,
The 74 Midget is a Austin engine MG as all MGs prior to 75 had. The prefix of "12V" is an ID that it is a 1275cc Austin engine. Midgets from 75 on had Triumph 1500 Spitfire engines and different clutch slave cylinders which should not fit your car.
If Victoria British sent you the wrong part you should call their toll free number and tell them they sent you the wrong part. If they don't give you any satisfaction you need to call Moss Motors at 1-800-667-7872 and talk to them. Unless your slave cylinder or connecting hard line have been modified they should have the correct part.
