MG Car Repair: 1980 MGB (USA), radiator cap, warm weather

Question
Will it hurt to run without a thermostat in a warm weather state like Florida?  If so, what temp rated thermostat is needed?

Answer
Hi Matt.  If you run without a thermostat, then you should fit a blanking sleeve in its place.  If you just remove the thermostat, coolant will not circulate correctly around the engine because it will take the easy route via the bypass tube.

The 1980 MGB has a pressurized cooling system.  You should use a 13psi or 15psi radiator cap, and an 82 degree (Celsius) thermostat.
