MG Car Repair: Towing, differential fluid, mg midget

Question
I am hoping to tow my 1970 MG Midget from Michigan to Florida.
I am hoping to tow it flat with a towbar.  Do you have any opinion or suggestions?

Thanks,
Kurt Boelstler

Answer
Hi Kurt,
You can't tow any MG that far without removing the driveshaft because the mainshaft in the gearbox will be spinning and no oil will get to the bearings because the laygear is the supplier and it does not spin unless the engine is running. It is easy to remove the drive shaft with just four bolts at the differential and then tie the drive shaft forward so as not to contact the differential flange. Also check the differential fluid level just in case it is low.
