MG Car Repair: mg, fuel pressure gauge, fuel supply

Question
hi sir,my 1979 mg will not start.the fuel pump clicks with key on,but no gas goes to the fuel filter.with the filter off and key on,gas flows out.and the filter is not plugged.can i check the fuel pump?where is it.thanks so much for your time.

Answer
Hi Dwayne,
The method to test a fuel pump is to get fuel pressure gauge and a "T" fitting, Install the "T" in the fuel line close to the carburetor and connect the gauge to the "T". Use clamps at all joints and start the engine and read the gauge. It should read from 1.5 to 3 PSI. If it does that then fuel supply is not the problem, you need to test further.
