MG Car Repair: Fuel problem - Overflow Tube, overflow tube, cold tank

Question
Hello. I have an Mg Midget 1978 and today I realized that some petrol was coming out from both of the Overflow Tube. Could you kindly advice what I can do? Many thanks

Answer
Hi Juan.  This is a common problem, and it is good that you noticed it.  Each float chamber has a float inside that allows the chamber to fill with petrol, just like the cold tank of water in your loft, only smaller.  There is a small valve in the lid of each chamber that stops the flow of petrol when they are full, and they have worn out.  It is time to replace them.  It is an easy and quick job.
