MG Car Repair: 79 MG Midget wont start, solenoid starter, starter solenoid

Question
My 1979 MG Midget had run fine until a few weeks ago when I turned it off. Now when I try and start it, I turn the ignition, and I hear nothing.  The power on the inside comes on and  have basic functions like lights, wipers, etc....i checked all the basic connections, battery Solenoid, starter.  Any ideas?

Answer
Hi Tony,
If you don't hear anything when you go to the start position then the first place to check is the starter solenoid. Have someone hold the key in the start position and check for power on the white w/red tracer wire on the solenoid. If it has power the solenoid or the starter is bad. If there is no power you either have a disconnection of that wire or the Ignition switch may be bad.
You should also check the engine to battery ground and the power wires on the starter solenoid.
