MG Car Repair: 1978 mgb idle problem, cold car, volt meter

Question
I own a 78 mgb, and have a problem with the idle. When the car is cold car idles good with a slight miss, but the miss is not the problems. Sometimes when I drive the car for say 45 minutes and slow down the idle drops down below 50 rpm and begins to stall, when I start to move engine runs fine, and maybe for no reason the problem clears up, and then will come back. Also, when the idle starts dropping my turn signals no longer flash, if I step on the gas slightly to keep from stalling the signal works fine. Any ideas on what might be the problem?

Thanks,

Answer
Hi Larry.
All those symptoms don't tell anything other than the car needs to be tested.

First test the charging system by putting a volt meter across the battery posts (not the cable ends) Read battery voltage (should be 12v +) then start the engine and set it at a fast idle (1500 RPM) Read the volt meter again. (should read 13.8v to 14.5v) Correct the charging system if necessary and proceed to testing the engine.
