MG Car Repair: Mgb not starting, issuse, battery down

Question
QUESTION: Hi Howard,
i have a 1975 Mgb, back last september, i had an issuse where there was fuel flowing out from an overflow from the dashpots, i gave them a knock on the side of them i this seemed to do the job, but i ran the battery down trying to start it. due to family issues, i only now getting a chance to get it going, so i charged up the battery, changed the plugs, but it will not start for me, there is no spark and the plugs seem dry, fuel pump is running when i turn on ignition, but the engine is not firing,
thanks for your help,
dermot

ANSWER: Hi Dermot,
I take it that this is a Euro version of the MGB since you said there is more than one carburetor. What kind of ignition system do you have?

Answer
Dermot,
An engine that does not start narrows the problem to only one thousand possible causes so you will need to narrow the problem a little closer to find what is causing it not to start.
To do this you need to read my tech tip on starting an engine that does not start. Go to http://mg-tri-jag.net/tech14.htm and read the test sequence and let me know what you find.
