MG Car Repair: 77 Midget Clutch Problem, clutch master cylinder, clutch pedal

Question
My 77 Midget shifts fine when cold but about 10-15 minutes into a run, it starts getting difficult to change gears. I start getting grinding when I throw it into the next gear, gradually getting worse.  Another 5 minutes and the clutch starts to fail completely and does not disengage even when the clutch pedal is fully depressed.  The clutch master cylinder was replaced a year ago but I do not know how long since the clutch itself has had any work done.  The clutch has been bled but it had no effect.  When I start it cold it is fine again to start but gradually does the same thing.  Do I need a new clutch or is this some other problem?

Answer
Hi Peter,
You didn't say weather the pedal gets soft or feels the same after it starts to fail. That is important to know to try to diagnose the problem. If the pedal feels the same as when it is cold then most likely it is not a hydraulic problem and may be a clutch, pilot bearing or transmission problem.
