MG Car Repair: Starting an MGB engine after a rebuild, distributor cap, spark plug

Question
Hello,
I rebuilt  mgb engine 18v673z completely. The crankshaft was reground, pistons are new and liners was implemented.
The engine has new camshaft piper 285. I setup the valves, carburetors and the candle got a spark . Unfortunately I have problem to do the first engine start.
Could you give me any advice what to do to start the engine?
Thank you,
Mariusz

Answer
Hello again, Mariusz. That sounds like a very nice engine you have built.

If everything is set up correctly, the engine should start.  You say you have a spark.  Either you have no fuel in the carburetters, or the timing of the spark is wrong.

With an MGB it is very easy to get the timing 180 degrees out.  At the distributor cap, swap spark plug leads 1 and 4.  Then swap spark plug leads 2 and 3.  Now try to start the engine.

Let me know how you get on.
