MG Car Repair: fuel gauge, voltage stablizer, fuel gauge

Question
Still trying to get my fuel gauge to register correctly.Full tank it reads between half and three quarters. I grounded the fuel sensor wire, and the gauge will read full. I replaced the sending unit in the tank, Tank is clean inside)- the connector at the sending unit, the voltage stablizer under the dash, and I even jumped a ground wire from the neg.battery terminal to the sending unit body. Before installing,I hooked up the new sending unit out side the tank, and raised the float. It registered full on the gauge, but not when I installed it.
I don't go on many long trips with it, but I would feel better knowing how much gas is left. Any other ideas?

Answer
Hi Bob,
If it reads correctly with the sending unit out of the tank then it should read the same installed. Either the travel of the arm is restricted when in the tank or you don't have a good ground or something like that. The test of the unit out side of the tank is the best test that you can do. You need to more closely examine the length of travel of the arm when in the tank and bend the wire arm to correct it if it is wrong.
