MG Car Repair: Bleeding the oil pressure guage, oil pressure guage, mgb gt

Question
I bought a new flexible pipe to fit to the block going to the oil pressure guage on my 66 MGB GT. How do I ensure all the air gets out of the pipe to give a true pressure reading. My guage was suspect in any case.

Answer
I assume that you are not fitting a new metal pipe, just the flexible hose.  The copper pipe to the gauge will still be full of oil.  Just fill the new flexible hose with oil before fitting it.  A few small bubbles will not cause a problem.

When fitting a new gauge or a new copper pipe to the gauge, it is best to slacken the nut on the back of the gauge, start the engine, and allow a little oil to trickle out before fully tightening the nut.
