MG Car Repair: carburetor, roadster factory, moss motors

Question
1970 Midget, I took one carburetor off, turned it upside down and the needle fell out hit the floor and was bent.
Can I purchase just a new needle or do I have to rebuild the carburetor, new needle, seat etc. I admit I am no mechanic and know little about engines.  thank you

Answer
Hi Dick,
You mean you dropped the piston out of the top pot and bent the needle? You can purchase needles individually. First undue the set screw in the side of the piston and remove the needle. You should buy a pair and can get them from any one of the MG parts suppliers like Moss Motors, Victoria British, Engel Imports, The Roadster Factory and British Parts North West to name a few. They all have web sites and all have toll free numbers.

Be very careful NOT to mix up the two pistons with their pots that they fit in. The piston is a machine fit to it's pot and can not be used in any other top pot.

You should replace the float needle and seat at the same time. They also can be purchased separately.
