MG Car Repair: Clutch, borg beck, thrust bearing

Question
Hi there,
I had a mechanic replace my clutch with a Borg & Beck kit and also replaced the clutch cylinders about 400 miles ago. I get rubbbing noise when I depress the clutch pedal. Sometimes it is very loud with vibration.  My MG is a 1976 B.  Could it be that the kit was installed incorrectly or defective.

Thanks, Frank

Answer
Hi Frank,
Unlikely installed wrong as if it were installed wrong it would not have went 400 miles, but anything is possible. Unfortunately there is not much can be done from the outside so I would first take it back to who ever installed it and get an opinion. Before you do try this, with the engine OFF pry the front pulley towards the rear of the car and have someone step down on the clutch pedal and watch the front pulley to see if it moves forward any. This is a test for a worn out crankshaft thrust bearing which is effected mainly by the clutch release system. If there is not noticeable movement you may as well resolve to pulling the engine to see what is wrong.
