MG Car Repair: MG Midget Transmission, clutch master cylinder, clutch disk

Question
Hello, I own a 1971 MG Midget, I have properly bled out the slave cylinder (which is new) the car is still not engaging into gear, what might be the problem? There is a new clutch on it as well.

Answer
The clutch master cylinder pumps the fluid and pressure to make the slave cylinder move the clutch release arm. If the master cylinder is not producing pressure then the clutch will not release. First check to see that there is no more than about one inch free play in the clutch pedal and that the pedal is firm from there all the way to the floor. If the pedal is soft then you didn't get all of the air out of the clutch system. If the pedal is firm as soon as the free play is taken up then it is possible that either the pilot bearing is binding on the input shaft or the clutch disk is warped from a difficult installation or the splines are rusty and the disk is sticking on the input shaft.
