MG Car Repair: 1976 mgb directional, connection tests, blinkers

Question
Good morning Howard,
I bought my wife a 1976 mgb and the right directional works until you step on the brake, then it stops blinking. The relay is new as the blinkers were not working at all. Even when the directional is not on the indicator will light up for the right blinker when you step on the brake. Looking at the wiring diagram it does not appear thet the brake should have anything to do with the directional. Any help would be appreciated.

Answer
Hi Tom,
Even though they do not share anything on the power side, they do share a ground and that makes it possible that a bad ground could have them back tracking by way of a bad ground, trying to seek a new ground. Do your connection tests at the bulb sockets with all the bulbs out, then test again with one bulb in at a time. The flasher blinks by the amount of resistance of the turn signal bulb filaments.
Let me know,
Howard
