MG Car Repair: New alternator, time howard, heater fan

Question
Hi Howard,
I have decided that I might go for a new alternator, a very reputable parts dealer in British Parts has one for a Midget that is 43 AMPS compared to the 36 AMP originals for the Midget. My question would the higher amp hurt or be ok for my Midget ? It looks real good or do you think I should stay with the 36 AMP .  Thanks for your time Howard.

Answer
Hi Bill,
The higher amp alternator will not hurt at all. Amperage is 100% dependent on load meaning that the higher amperage will only be used when the demand dictates. If you have a car and turn on enough items like a stereo, the head lights, heater fan and wipers and that uses 40 amps and you have a 36 amp alternator, the battery will slowly go down. If you have a 43 amp alt. the battery would stay up and if you only have a few items totaling 10 amps on, neither alt would make the battery go down.
