MG Car Repair: 1976 Midget, abnormal combustion, premium fuel

We recently purchased a 1976 Midget.  We had the carb rebuilt and replaced the starter. We were wondering what grade of fuel we should be using.

Hi Francie,
The US version 1975 1500 ran on Regular fuel but the 1976 1500 was designed to use Premium fuel. The use of Regular in an engine that is designed to use Premium fuel can result in "Pinging" (abnormal combustion) which can destroy an engine in a short time.
