MG Car Repair: 1974 Mg Midget, odd question, oil pump

Question
QUESTION: How to remove a camshaft locator plate on a 1974 MG Midget

ANSWER: Hi Roger,
You have to remove the timing cover, both sprockets and the chain. The plate is held to the block by three bolts.

That is an odd question. Why would you want to know how to remove that part? I have been working on MGs for 40+ years and have never had to replace one.

QUESTION: Howard,

It is the end of the cam that has a spline attached to the cam.  It is at the opposite end when you pull it out.  The locator plate has no bolts!

Roger

Answer
Roger, The MG Midget cam does not have a spline on it. The only splined item is a small drive for the oil pump on the back end of the cam. The cam locator plate is on the front of the engine between the cam sprocket and the block and is held to the block by three bolts. What are you calling a locator plate?
