MG Car Repair: Solenoid Problem?, brown wires, terminal ends

Question
Hi Howard,
I have a 69 B that I recently did some minor surgery on.  I had a meltdown on the brown wires leading to the solenoid and the short actually melted the plastic cap on the solenoid.  After the installation of a new solenoid (the starter checked out fine)  by a good friend and MG specialist, and soldering of new terminal ends on the damaged wires, it was fine, starting many times since the operation.  Went out to start it today and all I got was a "click".  Had ignition, juice is getting to the solenoid, and it is flowing through the coil.  Jump started the car fine, it ran great yesterday.  What would make it cease up like that?  Is it the solenoid?  No, the symptom did not change after a short joyride.   Appreciate any guidance you can give me besides hitting it with a hammer.
Thanks, Alan, St. Louis, MO

Answer
Hi Alan,
A solenoid does not know if you are supplying the voltage from a jumper battery or your battery so if your battery just made it "Click" and the jumper made it operate, you need to check your battery and all connections, power and grounds.
