MG Car Repair: !979 MG Midget Speedometer, speedometer cable, mg midget

The speedometer bounces around, not able to give an accurate reading.  Will replacing the speedometer cable take care of this?  If so does anyone have a diagram or input on
the best way of installing this.

Hi Dave,
Only if the cable is what is at fault. A dry or kinked cable can do this but so can a bad speedometer head to that. Remove the inner cable and look for kinks and lube it and try to see if that corrected it. If not we usually put a short piece of an old cable in a drill motor and checked the speedometer that way. The speedometer on the later Midgets was a push in and rotate to remove from the dash.
