MG Car Repair: Emissions, webber carb, vent port

Question
QUESTION: If the hose from the charcoal canister is blocked what affeect, if any, will it have on the engine/performance? (The gas tank is now vented by a sepeate hose to the underside of the car)

Thank You.

ANSWER: Doug, that will only have an effect if the vent pipe still runs from the carburetor float chamber and may be in violation of your state and federal laws on pollution. Which in turn may effect the money in your pocket to be able to put gas in the tank.

QUESTION: Hey Howard,

There is no hose to the float chamber as there is a weber on this car. The only "hose" to the weber is from the distributor and the gas tank.

ANSWER: The float chamber vent and the tank vent were all that the canister filtered.

QUESTION: I guess i don't understand you last response. This car has a webber carb and has no hoses connecting it to the canisters. The only connections coming out of the weber is a gas line and a vacume from the distibuter. The canister does have a hose connecting it to the valve cover, but wiht the gas tank vent re-directed, does the cansiter hose to the valve cover serve any purpose.

Thank you.

Answer
If your canister still has the valve cover vent hose than it is venting the crank case and you should disconnect the lower hose from the canister from the anti-run-on valve. If the Weber does not have a float chamber vent port and you for some reason don't want to vent the tank to the canister you may want to close off the other two canister top ports. The remaining valve cover port should still vent through the bottom large port (if you remove the hose to the electric anti-run-on valve.
