MG Car Repair: gas leak at ELC on 73B, vent hoses, ring gasket

Question
..just read your comments on Lisa's '72 Midget leaking gas on bottom of ELC to have a stuck carb float. I had the same problem. First noticed fuel leaking out of one (dual carb) carb float cap. Unscrewed cap in place & found o-ring gasket bad and replaced same...no more leak on carb but leaking at ELC. Is there a way to correct float problem with carb in place w/o disassembly off the car?. How can I tell if float is stuck? and not?. Was running great when I purchased the car..2 weeks ago. Looking forward your expertise, Thanks..Joe

Answer
Hi Joe,
What is an ELC? Sorry, I have only been working on MGBs for 40 years so I don't know what an ELC is. However, the floats in the SU carbs on a 73 MGB can be removed by just removing the fuel hoses and vent hoses and taking the screws out of the top of the float chamber and lift the top and float up out of the float chambers. Then you can check the float, needle & seats and set the float levels.
