MG Car Repair: 1976 MGB will not start, inertia switch, stale gas

Question
My MGB sat for just over a year and now I cannot get gas to the carburator. The MGB turns over. I sthe fuel pump bad or is there a simple fix?

Answer
Hi Harry,
If the car sat for a year you will need to drain the stale gas out of the tank, lines and carburetor and put fresh gas in. The fuel pump is electric and when it is operating it makes a clicking noise. The pump is mounted in the right rear just behind the axle and sticks part way into the trunk area. Check first for power with the key on and if it is powered try bumping the METAL part of the pump with a hammer handle or such to see if the contact points are stuck. If you don't have any power you need a 12v test light or a volt meter and test the circuit up to the inertia switch and the ignition relay and on. You need to refer to your wiring diagram for color codes.
