MG Car Repair: mgb fuse, radiator fans, ohm meter

Question
i have a 1977 mgb.i have had wiring problems in the past but it has been ok lately.today i replaced the water pump and in doing so, i bumped the large terminal with the red wire  on the back of the alternator a couple of times and it sparked.i also noticed that one of my radiator fans was disconnected so i hooked it up.  now the second fuse from the bottom keeps burning out even when i disconnect the fan. this fuse operates most guages and the radiator fans.when i shorted out the alternator could i have damaged something else that is causing the fuse to blow?  thanks so much  gary

Answer
Hi Gary,
It is not likely the large wire on the alt had anything to do with it as the large alt wire is direct to a main battery feed and has nothing to do with the rest of the wiring of the car. Most likely the fan and/or the fan wiring was at fault. You need to look at your wiring diagram and trace the fan circuit first. Testing with a test light or volt/ohm meter as you go. If you don't have a diagram let me know and I will get one to you via my web site.
