MG Car Repair: Rebuilding MGB carb, stromberg carburetor, zenith stromberg

Question
QUESTION: Now that I've narrowed the problem to the carb, how difficult is it to rebuild, costs, any special tools required?

ANSWER: Hi Lynn,
You didn't say what year MGB and what kind of carburetor/s it has. But that is not too important as none of the SUs or Strombergs require any special tools. There are a few special tools available that are nice but everything can be done with just standard hand tools.

QUESTION: It's on a 1980 MGB.  Single Zenith-Stromberg SU carburetor. Thanks!

Answer
Hi Lynn,
No special tools needed, however you should purchase a shop manual for the car so you can read up on the procedure. The 1980 MGB had a Stromberg carburetor for the US not an SU. Even though the Stromberg and the SU were both constant velocity carburetors, they operated a little different and had different components. You can get a manual from any of the British car parts suppliers like, Engel Imports, The Roadster Factory, Victoria British or British Car Parts North West. You should try to get a Bentley or Haynes manual.
If you have any problems while rebuilding the carb, let me know and I will try to help.
