MG Car Repair: Hazard warning fuse, amp fuse, amp fuses
QuestionGreetings,
I have a 1972 MGB. The hazards are not working. I found a replacement relay at local parts store. It is a Tridon EL12 hazard flasher. I installed this flasher. I found an inline hazard fuse blown. The fuse I pulled out was a 35 amp fuse. This seems a little excessively sized. I was wondering what is the proper size fuse?
Thanks,
James
AnswerJames, the fuse was to protect the wiring harness not the flasher so a 35 amp will work fine because any short in any wire on an MG (other than radio) will blow a 35 amp fuse before melting any wire. The large brown wires should have 50 amp fuses so as not to blow a fuse to often. Keep in mind that a flasher has many bulbs to power and if you put in a low amp fuse it will blow when left on for any time like a flasher would be. So don't use anything less than a 35a fuse.
