MG Car Repair: mgb overdrive switch, overdrive switch, shift boot

this is a simple one but cant find any reference in my w/shop manuals...i want to replace the overdrive switch on top of gearshift lever but cant work out method of getting top cap off...its a 78 B roadster.would appreciate your help thanks

Hi Lawson,
On a 78, you need to remove the shift boot and center tunnel carpet to get to a removable plate around the shift lever. This should (as I remember) give you access to the OD lock out switch. I don't remember replacing one this way but I think you can reach it there.
