MG Car Repair: MGB gear box noise, gear box noise, gearbox

Question
I have a 1966, MGB/ 4spd with overdrive, the gear box has developed a noise sounding like "sheeeeeee" from the gear box. Its more when you are on overdrive. but the sound goes off when you press the clutch and also the sound distorts when you put pressure on the gear leaver while driving. I live in Sri Lanka, so not many people no about the MGB gear box.

Noises in a MGB gearbox can be many things. But that does not matter because there is nothing you can do without removing the gearbox and open it up and look to see what is wrong. There is no repair of any kind that can be made form outside of a gearbox. If it were low on oil the overdrive would have quit working and you didn't say that.
If you can't locate a mechanic who can work on an MG gearbox you should purchase a manual if you have the facilities and tools to remove it and open it up. If you have any problems as you proceed I will try to guide you. There are only a few pit falls and I can guide you around them.
