MG Car Repair: 1980 mgb le in storage, british car club, ase certification

Question
Hello Howard, I have inherited a 1980 mgb le with 142 original miles. It has been in storage for the last 20 years. I would like to find an excellent mechanic to work on the car and bring it back into running condition. Is there any certifications or qualifications  I could ask about when looking for a mechanic for this situation?

Answer
Hi Rick, you need an experienced MG mechanic, and preferably with an ASE certification. Any good mechanic with a good ASE certification could do much of the work necessary but would be in trouble with the fuel system on this car as it is very different than any domestic car. Most major cities in the US have shops that specialize in British cars, you just need to search your area for one.
Search for a British car club, they will know where the shops are that can do the work. If you have a Jaguar dealer call them and ask them if they know of a shop that can work on MGs. Most Jag mechanics know where MGs can be worked on.
