MG Car Repair: MG Midget Clutch, clutch plate, hydraulic line

Question
I recently replaced the clutch plate on a '77 MG Midget. It worked well for several months, then began to incrementally grind while shifting, like there was air in the line. I have systematically replaced (with new parts) the master cylinder, slave cylinder, plus the hydraulic line, and have bled the system with EZ Bleed, Mighty VAC, and a buddy bleed effort. Nothing works -- there is still no clutch. Could something have gone wrong inside the clutch itself?

Answer
If you have very little free play in the pedal and the pedal feels firm as soon as you start to depress it and you still have a dragging clutch. You could have either a pilot bearing problem, warped disk from a rough installation or even bad syncros in the gearbox.

Do this test, start the engine and run it around a little to get it up to operating temp. Be sure the idle is 7 to 800 RPM but not over that. Depress the clutch all the way and hold it down and put it in second gear first then into neutral and over into reverse. If it grinds going into reverse, you do have a clutch or pilot bearing problem, providing you did do the above checks of the pedal free play and firm feel as soon as you start to depress it.
Let me know.
