Military Vehicle Repair: Cucv starter, selonoid, cucv

Question
Van,in response to your answer on my starter problem. I had it repaired again and put it in this morning. Yesterday when I turned the key the battery terminals started smoking and it wouldnt start or turn over. The selonoid burnt up,again. How much different is the 12 volt selonoid from the 24 volt? Mine is 24 volts now and the guy who fixed it claimed the other one was.Last week it was a spring inside that holds the (bendix)? in place.aqt least that is what I am told. Are there parts inside that are not available to fix it properly? Should I buy a new starter? Where can I find the bracket that is supposed to go on the front of the starter to support it? Thanks again

Answer
The solenoid is marked 24 volt. A 12 volt solenoid will burn up.

The bracket can be bought at any parts store.

No special parts really, except the armature and the solenoid must be 24 volt.

That smoking battery terminal sounds like a dead short in the starter wiring.
