We have a 1984 Chevy Military Pickup, 4X4, 6.2 diesel motor. The starter has been grinding up the flywheel. We are looking for a source to purchase a new 24 volt starter motor. We are looking for solutions to cure the grinding of the flywheel. Please get back to us as soon as possible. We can also be reached at 603-635-3371.
Thank You!

Any starter/alternator repair shop can rebuild the starter.
You may need a new flywheel. While the starter is off, rotate the engine by hand, and look at the teeth on the old one. You may find some missing, or badly damaged.
I have repaired them if not too bad, using a dremmel grinder.

Thanks Van, We have already replaced the flywheel because the teeth were worn, a 12 volt starter was put into this truck therefore we do not have a 24 volt to have rebuilt. We are looking for a source to get a 24 volt starter. We had gotten one from an aftermarket source but it ground the flywheel on first start. We are concerned if the aftermarket was a good source (USA) we haven't had alot of luck with USA starters on any models. Do you have any sources to get a 24 volt starter.
Thanks. Russ

Answer
Hello Russ

I got an answer back from Memphis Equipment. I would foreward it, but this site doesn't have that option, so I copied it, and here it is. My name, by the way, is Rick.
Good luck,
Van (Rick)

Rick,

We have rebuilt late model starters for the CUCV 6.2 engine.  They sell for $415.30 ea. And carry an additional core charge of $100.00 please let me know if I can help you further.      Thanks Paul
