Mitsubishi Repair: Magna Cruise Control not working, cruise control module, control cables

Question
98 Mistubishi Magna, Auto). The cruise control in the Magna is not working.  Have checked the fuses and they appear to be all ok.  The cruise is set in a two step process, activate the cruise by pressing a button on the dash (the light in the button illuminates). This appears to be working.  The second component is the cruise control stick on the steering column used to set/reset/adjust/cancel the cruise control does not appear to be working.  As when pressing the cruise control stick the green light in the display doesn't come on and the cruise isn't engaged.  Would really appreciate any help to identify what the problem might be and how it could be fixed?

Answer
Paul,
There's a number of components to check in this situation.  The control switch itself on the steering column is a first start.  The switch may be excessively worn and not making proper contact to activate the cruise when depressed.  Another is the cruise control module itself.  This is the simple electrical "brain" that controls the system.  There are other various causes such loose cruise control cables, a bad servo, or even faulty wires connected to the brake pedal that can cause this to happen.  Have your mechanic check those areas for problems.
Good luck!
