Mitsubishi Repair: egr solenoid, auto zone, egr valve

Question
I have a 99 mitsubishi monterro sport and I replace the egr valve but it is still saying egr malfunction at auto zone they said I maybe need to replace the egr solenoid also or can it be a bad sensor.

Answer
Lloyd,
The code readers that they use at AutoZone provide general error codes.  The EGR malfunction code can come up for many emissions related components; even a loose gas cap.  It may be caused by a bad EGR solenoid or some EVAP component.  If your car is running poorly and you cannot pin point the problem, you may need to have the dealership read the computer and they scanners will detect the proprietary codes.
Good luck!
