Mitsubishi Repair: water leaking in forming puddles on the floorboards, mitsubishi starion, drip pan

Question
I have a 1986 Mitsubishi Starion with a 2.0 litre 5 speed manual transmission. Water keeps leaking in somewhere mainly on the passenger side behind the glovebox and running down to the floorboards. This only happens when it rains. Do you have any ideas on what could be causing this to happen?

Answer
Kelli,
If you've been running your A/C lately, the condensation may be accumulating in the drip pan within the heater core.  Normally, a drain tube would allow the water flow out of the car.  But if that tube or drainage is blocked, the water will fill the heater core and being to drip out of the ducts inside your car.  You can have a mechanic inspect the drain tube and clear any clogs if present.

But if you do not have A/C and it truly only happens when it rains, then this can be cause a leak in the fresh air intake ducting located at the bottom of the windshield.  You may need to have that inspected and re-sealed if necessary.

Good luck!
