Mitsubishi Repair: stereo reset codes after engine rebuild, mitsubishi eclipse, four digits

Question
We had to get a rebuilt engine for our 2001 Mitsubishi Eclipse GT automatic and now need to reset the stereo.   We actually have the reset code for it but received it after several attempts of trying other codes.  It seems we are "locked out" if thats possible?  Any suggestions would be helpful.

Answer
Liane,
Put your keys in the car and put it on the "ACC" setting, you know the one that you would use if you just wanted to use your radio while parked.

So you do that and leave it like that for about an hour... yes, you must wait an hour with the key in the ignition turned to the ACC position for that long.  So park the car in a garage or trusted driveway if you cannot wait with it that long.

Now to input the code your going to use the 1,2,3,4 buttons on your radio since your code will be four digits. So lets say your code is 2121 what you would do is press "1" until you reach number 2 and do the same for the rest of your numbers.
Good luck!
