Mitsubishi Repair: 95 Eclipse RS Manual, clutch slave cylinder, transmission shop

Question
My eclipse has been missing going into 2nd gear randomly recently and now I can't get reverse to work. Is there something I can check myself before I resort to a transmission shop?

Answer
Jon,
You can check your shifter linkage; the cables that go from your shifter level to the transmission. If those are loose or broken, you can get those problems.  Also check the shifter seat bushings.  These bushings are located under the shifter level.  They are made of rubber and over time they can wear away can cause shifting problems.  Check those things first as they are the easiest.  More serious/expensive problems could be caused by a bad clutch (slave cylinder, shifter fork, throw-out bearing) or the transmission itself.
Good luck!
