Mitsubishi Repair: transmission neautral light flashes, transmission control unit, transmission shop

Question
The neutral light is flashing on 2004 spyder eclipse. Speedometer sometimes sticks at 20 mph and car shifts hard into third gear and sometimes not into 4th gear at all. Can you diagnose?

Answer
Jim,
Your car's computer has detected your transmission has a problem.  Most cars get "stuck" in 3rd gear when the computer detects a problem because 3rd gear can allow the car to move from a dead stop and allow the car to move at higher speeds without damaging the engine or further damage the transmission.  It can be caused by anything from a bad TCU connection harness, to low tranny fluid, to damaged internal components.  The best thing to do would be to take the car to the dealership or to a transmission shop.  They can pull the trouble codes from the car's transmission control unit and that can help tell them what is causing this problem.
Good luck!
