Mitsubishi Repair: Squeaking engine, drive belts, squeaky wheel

Question
I have a 2003 V6 Galant. When I start the car, something in it squeaks, kind of like a squeaky wheel, but it sounds more like an up and down kind of squeak. I checked the oil level and that's fine. It is 2,000 miles overdue for an oil change, any chance that could be causing the squeak?? Don't know if it's relevant, but I just got a tune up in August. Any insight you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Answer
Joey,
Most squeaks are caused by a loose or worn drive belt.  Your car probably has 3 drive belts; power steering, alternator, and A/C.  If any of those belts are loose or if the pulleys they ride on are worn, then you'll get a squeaky noise.  You can have your mechanic inspect and adjust/replace the belts if necessary.
Good luck!
