Mitsubishi Repair: noise from wheels, bad wheel bearing, rear wheels

Question
i have a 2002 diamante vrx. after i've been driving for a while and i go at slow speeds like 20 or below a very loud flute type sound comes from one of the wheels. when i touch the brakes it stops. it almost sounds like it speeds up as i get faster but i can't tell if thats just the wheel blocking out the noise.

Answer
Morgan,
This noise may be a result of a bad wheel bearing.  When a wheel bearing starts to go bad, they can make a low tone hum or whistle.  This sound can also be produced when your brake pads wear down and the wear-tabs begin to touch the rotor.  If it sounds like the sound is coming from one of the rear wheels, that could indicate a stuck parking brake.  In any of the above cases, you'll want to have a mechanic inspect the brake components and correct the problem ASAP to be on the safe side.
Good luck!
