Mitsubishi Repair: 94 Montero electrical problem., battery cables, windows radio

Question
My 94 Montero SR developed a problem in a very short time:  the radio cut out, worked, cut out again several times.  As I came to a stop sign, the auto tranny temp light came on, the brakes seemed weak as I came to a stop.  I parked the car and it would not restart.  I changed the battery and alternator.  Engine electric works, dash lights work, car runs, battery does not charge.  All other electrical (doors, windows, radio, ac fan, int lights) are not functioning.  Is there a wiring harness connection that can be responsible for this, or is it more serious?  Thanks.

Answer
Adam,
What you described typically happens when the alternator begins to fail.  But you mentioned that you had replaced the alternator and it did not fix the problem, so this makes it a bit more difficult to diagnose.  You should have your battery cables checked and replaced.  If a battery cable is corroded or if there is an improper ground, then you will experience the problems you mentioned.  Also be sure to check all the fusible links and relays that pertain to the charging system for your vehicle.  That can also contribute to your charging problem.
Good luck!
